Cable release adapter

This clips below the zoom lever surround on the G1. It moves freely with the zoom lever so there is no restriction on zooming. The adapter accepts cable releases with standard thread and you unclip the adapter when it is not required.

The adapter should work with Canon Powershot S100 and S110 Digital Elphs--let me know if you are interested. It will not work with the G2/G3.

Use of a cable release avoids camera shake and the 2-second delay of the wireless remote!

Use the button below to buy a Cable release adapter.
Cost is US$12 and US$4 freight.

Improved version—greater range

4.5m/15 feet

Optical remote assistant

Improved version—greater range

4.5m/15 feet

Are you disappointed that the G1/G2/G3 only respond to the wireless remote if it is in front of the camera? With my Optical remote assistant, you can control the camera from above, from behind and from in front. All from distances of up to 4.5m (15 feet). Some users have reported success with distances up to 6m (20 feet). Let me know if you need a longer range.

The Optical remote assistant attaches to the camera body with Velcro so it can be installed and removed easily and without damaging the camera. The assistant does not interfere with a hot shoe-mounted flash.

You can use the wireless remote to zoom the lens as well as to fire the camera.  See the hint below for a way to remotely view what the camera is seeing.

I can make infra-red assistants for other cameras. Send me an email stating your camera's make and model.

See what happy customers wrote
about the accessories:

"I did receive the accessories and love the shutter extender. . . Thanks again for a great product and am very happy to be your referral should you need it in the future."

"Just received your Optical Remote Assistant today and had just enough time to give it about three minutes worth of test drive. Contrary to your four meters, I managed to back up to 7 meters before it wouldn't connect. Lovely product. I'm very pleased I
purchased it."

Handy Hints

Try this: you can use the video-out port on the camera with a long cable to hook up
the camera to a TV with a video-in port so you can remotely view what your camera is seeing before you take
your shots.  All you have to do is get a cable to join on to the video-out cable that came with your camera and plug
into a (portable) TV or monitor.  You could make your own extension cable.  I have used this technique to control
my G1 through a battery-powered 2" TV.

Here's another one: to disable the warning flashes

that precede a shot when using the wireless remote, cover the flashing light with opaque tape.  Doing this may affect
the camera's ability to focus in low-light situations, but otherwise seems to have no effect on operation of the camera.
You can turn off the beeps which sound before the shot by going to the Set up menu and turning "Beep" to "Off".
